It gives us the balanced and complete approach of raja yoga, which is also known as the “royal” yoga. The course is organized around seven topics-Philosophy, Meditation, Postures, Breathing, Routines, Healing Principles and Techniques, and Diet. It also includes in-depth discussions of the paths of karma, bhakti, and gyana yoga. The author, Swami Kriyananda, excels in showing the interdependence of these seemingly separate areas and how all of them, when correctly approached, further our spiritual progress.


The main purpose of yoga postures, for example, sometimes thought to bestow only physical benefits, is to prepare the body and mind for meditation. Affirmations, visualizations, breathing exercises, healing techniques, the different paths of yoga, and, to a certain extent, diet are similarly helpful. What unites these various areas is raja yoga’s inward, spiritual focus, which achieves its fullest expression in the practice of meditation.

Art and Science of Raja Yoga Online Course“Yoga, literally, means ‘union.’ This union can be understood on different levels: philosophically, as that of the relative, limited self with the absolute Self; religiously, as that of the individual soul with the Infinite Spirit; psychologically, as the integration of the personality – a state wherein a person no longer lives at cross-purposes with himself; emotionally, as the stilling of the waves of likes and dislikes, permitting one to remain in all circumstances complete in himself.” — Swami Kriyananda
You will learn how to apply the ancient principles of yoga to every aspect of your life through affirmations, healing, philosophy, lifestyle, meditation, and diet. In addition, you will learn a system of yoga postures appropriate for any age or physical condition, which will help to prepare you for meditation. The meditation instruction includes ancient breathing exercises (pranayama) that can be used as remedies for specific mental and physical conditions, along with advanced meditation techniques.
This course offers several methods for student engagement. Each lesson contains downloadable reading assignments, digital videos of Swami Kriyananda, audio learning tracks, and discussion forums. There will be occasional live classes presented by the instructor and special guest speakers. All of the live classes are recorded for students unable to attend live. Each lesson ends with a recommended daily routine, as well as a quiz which allows for further interaction with the course instructor.

The recommended pace of this course is one lesson per week and you will have 24 weeks to complete the 14 lessons. You will receive an email reminder seven days before your enrollment period expires.
