What Is Ananda Yoga®?
Ananda Yoga® comes from the renowned Raja Yoga / Kriya Yoga tradition of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. Yogananda was the first great master of yoga to make his home in the West. Ananda Yoga® arose from his teachings and was developed into a definite system of practice by his close, direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda Worldwide.
Above all, Ananda Yoga® seeks to raise your level of consciousness by reinforcing the natural effects of the yoga postures. With this, it is also designed to harmonize your body, mind, and soul. Ananda Yoga® includes asana, pranayama, yogic meditation techniques, and applied yoga philosophy.

Ananda Yoga® was established from one of the oldest Hatha Yoga systems in the West. Its roots are the 1940s/1950s, when Kriyananda was asked by Paramhansa Yogananda, to demonstrate the postures for visiting guests, as well as for public events. Kriyananda also modeled for photos, for articles on the yoga postures in Yogananda’s “Self-Realization Magazine.” From 1965 he started to teach Ananda Yoga® publicly in California. In 1972 his students developed a Yoga Teacher Training Program, which is now taught in America, in Europe, and in India. The director of Ananda Yoga®, Nayaswami Gyandev Rich McCord, is a co-founder of Yoga Alliance and a member of its Board of Directors. He is also author of Spiritual Yoga: Awakening to Higher Awareness.
Seated firmly there, with one-pointed concentration of the mind, and neither roaming mentally nor reacting to sense stimuli, let him see self-purification by Yoga practice. — Bhagavad Gita
