Ananda Yoga® comes from the renowned Raja Yoga / Kriya Yoga tradition of Paramhansa Yogananda, author of Autobiography of a Yogi. Yogananda was the first great master of yoga to make his home in the West. Ananda Yoga® arose from his teachings and was developed into a definite system of practice by his close, direct disciple, Swami Kriyananda, the founder of Ananda Worldwide.
What Is Ananda Yoga®?
Above all, Ananda Yoga® seeks to raise your level of consciousness by reinforcing the natural effects of the yoga postures. With this, it is also designed to harmonize your body, mind, and soul. Ananda Yoga® includes asana, pranayama, yogic meditation techniques, and applied yoga philosophy.

Ananda Yoga® was established from one of the oldest Hatha Yoga systems in the West. Its roots are the 1940s/1950s, when Kriyananda was asked by Paramhansa Yogananda, to demonstrate the postures for visiting guests, as well as for public events. Kriyananda also modeled for photos, for articles on the yoga postures in Yogananda's "Self-Realization Magazine." From 1965 he started to teach Ananda Yoga® publicly in California. In 1972 his students developed a Yoga Teacher Training Program, which is now taught in America, in Europe, and in India. The director of Ananda Yoga®, Nayaswami Gyandev Rich McCord, is a co-founder of Yoga Alliance and a member of its Board of Directors. He is also author of Spiritual Yoga, Awakening to Higher Awareness.

This course offers streaming videos of guided daily Sadhanas, as well as various Hatha Yoga routines that specifically work on awakening qualities such as healthier, peaceful, joyful body mind and spirit. Whether you are new to yoga or if you have been practicing for many years, we offer classes to help guide you deeper into your connection to the divine. There is a wide variety of beginner yoga, intermediate, and expert classes and tutorials for you to choose from. Ananda Yoga® has a unique way of guiding you through a process of increasing and improving flexibility and enhancing your sense of well-being.
Nayaswami Gyandev directs Ananda’s Yoga® Teacher Training course as well as Ananda Yoga® worldwide at The Expanding Light Retreat in Northern California. He is also author of Spiritual Yoga, Awakening to Higher Awareness. Known for his clarity of presentation, deep insights, high energy, kindness and humor, Gyandev has taught meditation for nearly 30 years. He is also an Ananda minister, Level 2 Ananda Yoga® teacher, Raja Yoga teacher, E-RYT 500, and a co-founder of Yoga Alliance.
