Asanas for the Yoga Sutras

Oct 10–Nov 14, 2021 (6 SUNDAYS)

Take your teaching of Ananda Yoga® to the next level.

This one-time offering focuses on the practice and teaching of the Level 2 Ananda Yoga® asanas that were formerly covered in The Essence of the Yoga Sutras, an in person course at The Expanding Light Retreat. It is offered as a companion course for Living the Yoga Sutras. It is open to any qualified yoga teacher.

Course Activities

You will be part of a 2.5-hour online workshop on each of the following dates:

  • October 10, 17, 24, 31
  • November 7, 14

Each workshop takes place on a Sunday morning at 9:00–11:30 AM, Pacific time, and will focus on several of the 13 asanas included in this training. You will:

  • Explore the biomechanics of the asanas
  • Practice the asanas
  • Experiment with variations of the asanas
  • Practice teaching the asanas
  • Discuss issues and solutions that are likely to come up when teaching these asanas to your students

Course Materials

You will receive a pdf of pages for 13 asanas in the same format as the asana pages in the Level 1 Ananda Yoga Teacher Training manual.

Please Note

This course will be offered only once. After 2021, the asanas of this course will be addressed only in an expanded course (not yet titled) that covers the asana portion of two in-person courses formerly held at The Expanding Light Retreat: The Essence of the Yoga Sutras and The Essence of the Bhagavad Gita. Those two courses are now offered—online only, without asana components—under the titles Living the Yoga Sutras and Living the Bhagavad Gita.

“Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras are a stirring cry to us to transcend all religious differences. Their basic message is, ‘Here are methods that can be tested and proved. You can know what God is from personal experience.’”

FAQs

Asanas for the Yoga Sutras is open to all graduates of Level 1 Ananda Yoga® teacher training and Bridge to Ananda Yoga®, as well as any yoga teacher who is, or has been, a Yoga Alliance RYT. Exceptions might be made for teachers whose training was through schools that were not registered with Yoga Alliance.

Certified Ananda Yoga teachers who seek Level 2 Ananda Yoga® teacher certification will move through the course together, week by week. This leads to enriching interactions with classmates and builds a dynamic learning community that you’ll enjoy—and benefit from—immensely. Any other participants are welcome to participate at their own pace.

The weekly workshops are 2.5 hours long. Prior to each workshop, you’ll also be expected to do a small amount of study of course materials for the asanas that will be addressed in the workshop.

We will have “live” workshops on these dates:

  • Sunday, October 10, 17, 24, 31 (9:00–11:30 AM, Pacific time)
  • Sunday, November 7, 14 (9:00–11:30 AM, Pacific time)

Workshops will be recorded for the benefit of those who cannot participate “live.” Ananda Yoga teachers who seek Level 2 Ananda Yoga® teacher certification can miss no more than one workshop, and even missing that will involve a makeup video-creation assignment. Other course participants can attend the workshops if time permits, or simply view the video recordings of the workshops.

Not unless you miss a live workshop and have a video makeup assignment.
